Including loading grade ferrochrome (C ≤ 10%), medium carbon ferrochrome (C ≤ 4.0%), low-carbon ferrochrome (C ≤ 0.5%), and micro carbon ferrochrome (C ≤ 0.15%). Commonly used include silicon chromium alloy, nitride chromium iron, etc. Chromium iron is mainly used as an alloy additive in steelmaking, which was added in the later stage of steelmaking refining in the past













To smelt low-carbon steel grades such as stainless steel, it is necessary to use low and low-carbon ferrochrome
resulting in a significant development in the production of refined ferrochrome. Due to the improvement of steelmaking technology, when producing stainless steel and other steel grades using AOD method (see refining outside the furnace), carbon chromium iron (mainly charge grade chromium iron) is used for furnace charging. Therefore, only low and micro carbon chromium iron needs to be added in the later stage to adjust the composition. Therefore, the focus of chromium iron production now is on refining carbon chromium iron.

Smelting with a reducing electric furnace, using coke as the reducing agent and silica or bauxite as the flux
The composition of slag is generally SiO227-33%, MgO30-34%, Al2O326-30%, and Cr2O3<9.0%
Due to the formation of chromium carbide, the product contains 4-9% carbon. The capacity of modern reduction electric furnaces for smelting ferrochrome is 10000-48000 kVA, generally using a closed fixed type, and the smelting power consumption is 3000-4000 kWh/ton
The electric furnace for smelting silicon chromium alloy is similar to the chromium iron reduction electric furnace, and there are two smelting methods: one-step method and two-step method. One-step smelting with chromite, silica, and coke mixed with flux flux
The two-step method uses carbon chromium iron, silica, and coke as raw materials for slag free smelting, and the smelting process is generally similar to the production of silicon iron. The electricity consumption for smelting is around 3000-4000 kilowatt hours per ton.
