Product Introduction

Products Description

The chemical composition of ferrosilicon primarily consists of silicon (Si) and iron (Fe), with trace amounts of elements such as aluminum (Al) and calcium (Ca). The main difference in composition ratios among various grades of ferrosilicon lies in their silicon content.

1. Primary Chemical Components
Silicon (Si)

Typically ranging from 40% to 80%, silicon is the key element determining ferrosilicon's properties.
Higher silicon content enhances ferrosilicon's deoxidizing capacity and alloying effect, corresponding to higher grades.
Iron (Fe)

Content generally ranges from 10% to 20%, serving as the matrix element of the alloy.
Iron primarily originates from steel scrap or waste steel in smelting raw materials, with its content decreasing as silicon content increases.

2. Secondary Chemical Components
Aluminum (Al)

Content generally ranges from 0.5% to 3%, with some high-aluminum ferrosilicon exceeding 5%.
Aluminum also acts as a strong deoxidizer, assisting silicon in deoxidation and enhancing its effectiveness. However, excessively high aluminum content increases aluminum oxide inclusions in steel, adversely affecting steel quality.
Calcium (Ca)

Content is typically low, ranging from 0.1% to 1%.
Calcium refines inclusions in steel and improves toughness.

3. Harmful Impurities
Phosphorus and sulfur are the primary harmful impurities in ferrosilicon, requiring strict control to prevent severe degradation of steel quality.
Phosphorus (P)

Content is generally required to be ≤0.04%-0.07%, with some high-end ferrosilicon requiring ≤0.03%.
Phosphorus causes a sharp decline in steel toughness at low temperatures, increasing susceptibility to fracture. Therefore, ferrosilicon used for producing low-temperature steel and high-strength steel has strict phosphorus content requirements.
Sulfur (S)

Content is typically required to be ≤0.02%-0.05%.
Sulfur reduces plasticity at elevated temperatures, increasing susceptibility to cracking during rolling and forging. Consequently, low-sulfur ferrosilicon must be used when producing high-quality steel.
