Product Introduction

Silicon carbide is a semiconductor

that exists in nature in the form of an extremely rare mineral, musonite. Since 1893, it has been mass-produced into powders and crystals, used as abrasives, etc. Among non oxide high-tech refractory raw materials such as C, N, and B, silicon carbide is the most widely used and economical one, which can be called gold steel sand or refractory sand. The silicon carbide produced by Chinese industry is divided into two types: black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which are hexagonal crystals.

Material variety

Silicon carbide has two commonly used varieties, black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which belong to α- SiC. ① Black silicon carbide contains about 95% SiC, and its toughness is higher than that of green silicon carbide. It is mostly used for processing materials with low tensile strength, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractory materials, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals

Green silicon carbide contains over 97%

SiC and has good self sharpening properties. It is mostly used for processing hard alloys, titanium alloys, and optical glass, as well as for honing cylinder sleeves and precision grinding high-speed steel cutting tools. In addition, there is cubic silicon carbide, which is a yellow green crystal produced by a special process. The grinding tool used for production is suitable for ultra precision machining of bearings, and can process the surface roughness from Ra32 to 0.16 microns to Ra0.04 to 0.02 microns in one go

Scale Production

Silicon carbide is a type of carbide accidentally discovered by American Acheson in the laboratory during the 1891 diamond melting experiment. At that time, Acheson attempted to prepare artificial diamonds. When he heated clay (aluminosilicate) and powdered coke (carbon) in an iron bowl, blue crystals formed. He mistakenly thought it was a mixture of diamond, so he named it diamond. In 1893, Acheson developed a method for industrial smelting of silicon carbide, commonly known as the Acheson furnace. It has been used to this day as a resistance furnace with carbon material as the core body, which heats a mixture of quartz SiO2 and carbon by electricity to generate silicon carbide.
