Its main components are silicon and calcium, and it also contains varying amounts of impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus. It is used in the steel industry as a calcium additive, deoxidizer, desulfurizer and denaturant for non-metallic inclusions. Cast iron industry is used as inoculant and denaturant. Silicon-calcium alloys are distinguished by their calcium and silicon content as follows

Since calcium has strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in the steel, calcium silica alloy is mainly used for deoxidizing, degassing and fixing sulfur in the steel. Calcium silica produces a strong exothermic effect when added to the steel. Calcium becomes calcium vapor in the steel, which has an agitation effect on the steel and is beneficial to the floating of non-metallic inclusions. After deoxidation of calcium silica alloy, it produces non-metallic inclusions with larger particles and easy to float, and also changes the shape and nature of non-metallic inclusions. Therefore, calcium silica alloy is used to produce clean steel, oxygen, sulfur content of low quality steel, as well as oxygen, sulfur content is very low special performance steel. The addition of calcium silica alloy can eliminate the use of aluminum as a final deoxidizer of steel in the ladle water mouth of the tumor, and continuous casting | ironmaking intermediate tank water mouth blockage and other problems. In steel refining technology outside the furnace, the use of calcium silica powder or core wire for deoxidation and desulfurization, so that the content of oxygen and sulfur in steel to very low; also control the form of sulfide in steel, while improving the utilization of calcium. In the production of cast iron, in addition to deoxidation and purification, calcium silica alloy also plays a pregnant role, helping to form fine grained or spherical graphite; so that the distribution of graphite in gray cast iron is uniform, reducing the tendency of white mouth; and can increase silicon, desulfurization, improve the quality of cast iron.
